South of Cadaqués, beyond the village’s last beach, a different world opens up: the rugged schist coastline of the Cap de Creus Natural Park, where the tramuntana wind and the sea have sculpted the rocks into organic, almost phantasmagorical forms. The path to the Cala Nans Lighthouse is one of the most beautiful and accessible coastal walks on this stretch of shore, suitable for almost everyone and rewarding at every step.
The trail runs along the top of the cliffs, with constant views out to sea and down to the small pebble coves nestled at the foot of the headlands. As you leave the village behind, silence deepens and a powerful sense of solitude and untouched nature takes hold. The Cala Nans lighthouse, built in 1863, appears gleaming white on a rocky promontory. From its surroundings, the views northwards over the bay of Cadaqués with the village in the background, the Sant Salvador mountain and the Cap de Creus lighthouse on the horizon are breathtaking.
The return walk along the same route, this time with Cadaqués ahead of you throughout, is a completely different experience. For those with time and energy, the trail continues south from the lighthouse to the Coll del Pi Solitari, a col offering 360-degree views over the Cap de Creus and the Bay of Roses.
